My vampire boyfriend is acting strange.

We've passed that milestone, but maybe our relationship has become routine. My best friend thinks I should spice things up. That might be easy for a half-siren, but I'm a witch. I can master spells, not seduction.

My awkward attempt proves it. I'll stick to dancing in clubs rather than my bedroom.

Although Diego claims nothing's wrong with us, he's still distant. He's keeping something from me, but what?

As I approached Diego with what I hoped was a sultry stride, my heel got caught in the edge of the area rug. A squeak of surprise announced my descent. I put my arms forward to brace myself before hitting the hardwood floor.

"Ow!" Pain radiated from my funny bones, increasing in intensity.

Diego leapt off the bed with vampiric speed over to me. "Are you okay?"

"Crusty cauldrons," I muttered as he helped me to my feet. My sore knees slowed my rise. Nothing like bones hitting hardwood. "I meant to do that." I gave him a weak smile.

"Are you hurt?"

"I'm okay. Blasted heels," I cursed. Bending down, I tore the stupid death traps off my feet and threw them aside. The pain still throbbed but not as intense as when I fell.

When I rose, Diego's expression turned feral.

"What's wrong?" I asked him.

"You're bleeding." His voice sounded strangled.

"Uh oh." Glancing down, I witnessed the damage. A rivulet of blood ran from my knee down my shin. Eeek, not only had I blown the hot dance, but I'd ignited a different kind of hunger in my vampire.
